Peachtree City development started in the 1950s from 12,000 acres of open farmland, with a community centered around its 88 miles of golf cart paths, two 250 acre lakes, and four charming villages, each with a fire station, shopping center, and elementary school. The unique golf cart trails allow Peachtree City's 10,000 families to cruise around the city just about year-round, either to the pool or over to a friend's house for a relaxing afternoon.
"Life is a lot sweeter at 18 miles per hour. It forces you to slow down", said former Mayor Steve Brown.
Residents of Peachtree City enjoy the best of both worlds, since Peachtree City is only 29 miles south of downtown Atlanta, a 20 minute drive from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, and has access to all the amenities of a much larger city. Yet, Peachtree City remains untainted by urban sprawl and manages to retain its quaint charm. Due to local ordinances that restricts development and commercial signage, the city is plush with greenery and wildlife. Its school system is among the best in the state, and it has an almost nonexistent crime rate.
